Managed security service providers provide coverage for a handful of businesses, offering solutions and product packages as a one stop shop. Many of their staff are composed of IT subject matter experts and related fields so that every organization doesn’t have to build out a full fledged security team. This is why a lot of companies prefer going this route… Just keeping up with the newly discovered vulnerabilities is a full time job by itself. It requires years of background knowledge to understand, patch, and build proof of concepts (POC’s) for. Now imagine building tooling to support these complexities.



Managed detection and response (MDR) is one of the tools or toolsets they wield to provide coverage in a growing amorphous organization. These tools assist analyst so that they aren’t inundated with the intricacies of each environment, which the number of can be large in each organization. But integrating with these tools aren’t without their own challenges. Some still require a high degree of knowledge about specific environments in order to investigate issues as well as to setup and maintain.

This is why we have began looking into this area to shine a light on some of these industry tools and the experience cybersecurity engineers have when working with them day to day. We put together a survey for the industry professionals to share this feedback.
